The reception and orientation put on the by the wagonmaster's was great. We had appie's and beverages and received lots of information. We met the last two members of our group, two ladies from California. We were given our order two-way radios and our position in the RV line-up for tomorrow. Dave and I are #5 out of 8.
We breezed through the border. When we were asked to unlock our trailer by a border guard we thought "uh-oh". I opened the door, she went in, looked around and said "Very nice. Have a good time." The wagonmaster's were right. They just want to see what the rigs look like inside.
The wagonmaster's are #1 in the line up and they alert us to things like cyclists on the road, semis, buses, anything large coming towards us since the roads are quite narrow, topes (speed bumps), etc.
They also advise us of points of interest, upcoming photo ops and where to turn. We advise them is we've been stopped by a red light or if we have any issues. #6 RV was stopped by the police so we all pulled over at the first available place to wait for them. The wagonmaster turned around to go back and see if he could help. It turned out that they were stopped and told that their bikes were bouncing around quite a bit. The police were just being helpful.
This place was interesting. You can rent those little "rooms" up on the hill. Not sure how you get up there.
Our first stop was at Costco and a large grocery store in Ensenada to stock up on food and beverages. They have some very different things in their grocery store. It is strange to see huge pieces of raw chicken piled up out in the open. You just help yourself to them.
Our first glimpse of the ocean.
The drivers in Mexico are much more daring than we are. A no passing sign on the highway does not mean anything to them. We even had a vehicle pass us on the right on the shoulder. Welcome to Mexico!
There it is again. It was very interesting to see all of the workers in the fields. This is a field of brussel sprouts.
We arrived at our campground in Punta Banda right next to the ocean. While Dave was setting up, I took Cleo to the beach. She ran up & down the beach chasing the birds. When the birds fly over the water she bounds in after them. As she was jumping through the water a big wave hit her and flipped her right over. She didn't know what happened. She ran straight back to me. It was pretty funny. Now that she is getting used to the waves she listens for them coming.
We went on an excursin in the afternoon to "La Bufadora" (blow hole). The water was very calm so we didn't get much of a show. Just a couple of little sprays.
It was an interesting drive to get there. I was glad the wagonmaster was doing the driving. They have a nice, big, air-conditioned van to drive us all around in. The narrow road went through the middle of a market which had vendors on both sides and the road was packed with pedestrians. Quite a challenge to get through, especially when there is oncoming traffic.
We had a nice evening chatting with our fellow caravaners and listened to the waves rolling in all night long. Awesome!!
There was an excursion today into Ensenada to a cultural centre, art gallery, shopping & a fish market. Dave & I opted out for a day of R & R. I did ask one of the girls to pick me up a piece of fish though.
We discovered today that we could us Face Time. We talked to Jay & Colton, and then Shelley. It was great!
BTW, you'll notice from my last blog, I no longer have time to check for spelling mistakes. Sorry.
