Island Life

Our trip across the Canadian border went very smoothly.  We wondered why we hadn't stocked up on cheap American booze.  Our timing for the ferry was great.

We thought maybe we could get Samantha (our GPS) to panic when we were crossing on the ferry but she was too smart.

We arrived on Vancouver Island on a slightly cloudy day.
Our reasons for being here.  Teegan

And Colton.

This playground is conveniently located right next door to our campground in Parksville.
When we arrived in a Parksville it was time for the annual herring run.  They travel through Parksville in massive numbers and the water becomes a gorgeous turquoise.  There are dozens of fishing boats collecting them to sell.  The seals feast on them.  For about the first week all we heard night and day was barking seals.  It was a nice change from all the barking dogs in Mexico.  You can see a little strip of turquoise in this picture.  It kept moving across the bay every day.

There are so many things in bloom here.
We went to watch Colton at tae kwon do. Unfortunately all of the action shots turned out blurry.
Our morning walk.
Good thing we are not afraid of birds.
We had a teeny, tiny crack in the corner of our kitchen window when we left Winnipeg.  It kept growing & growing in the Baja.  It was time to get it fixed.
Dave found this sign amusing.
We went for a picnic to Stamp River with Jay & the kids one day.  We had to stop at Coombs on the way to buy Goats on the Roof hot sauce for a friend.
The next stop was Port Alberni for the best doughnuts on the Island.  It had been a long time since I'd had a doughnut but I'd have to say it was probably the best I've ever had.  While enjoying our doughnut we sat on a dock and watched an RCMP dive boat preparing to go out to practice.
We went for a nice hike before having our lunch.

A great spot for lunch.
Who needs toys when there are so many rocks?
Colton's first time holding a snake.

Dave and I and Cleo went for a hike on our own one day.

Grandpa's having fun with Lego.
She's a doll.
Teegan & Cleo are crazy about each other.
Colton & grandpa built a garage.
We have been having fun with my sister Shelley and her husband Rene.  We went to their house one night for a Mexican dinner party and had a sleepover.  On another weekend we went to their lake house at Lake Cowichan for a sleepover.  Cleo enjoyed the view.
We had some great walks at the lake.  Cleo really enjoyed her cousin Halley's bed.
She made me feel quite guilty for getting rid of her beds.
The kids having fun on their run bikes.
Dave went to the International Car Show in Vancouver with Rene.
 More pretty spring blooms.
We went to a great celebration party.
Another hike.

We went to Salt Spring Island for the day to visit friends that we met on our Baja caravan.

We had a very enjoyable day with Gary & Cheryl who have a beautiful home with an amazing view.
Their back yard is gorgeous with so many interesting things to look at.
This is their sweet dog Opal who shared her toys with Cleo.

Waiting for the ferry to return to Vancouver Island.
Well, we've done it.  We bought a new (used) trailer.
If anyone wants a great trailer, our Wildcat is up for sale.
We camped at Rathtrevor Beach for a couple of days on Easter weekend with Jay & Elfie & the kids.

Shelley & Rene joined us for Easter dinner.

How cute are they?

We have now moved to Living Forest campground at the south end of Nanaimo.  Unfortunately it is a lot farther from the grandkids but we are really enjoying it.  There is a great off leash area to walk Cleo and we have made friends already.  We went to a pretty good party last night.
Dave made bacon & eggs for Easter breakfast.

We have taken up the "senior" sport of pickleball and are really enjoying it.
We are looking forward to being back in Manitoba in May.
