Good Times in Puerto Vallarta

Jan. 18:  Another beautiful day in paradise.
Jan. 20:  We dropped Cleo off at a kennel in Lo de Marcos and went to Puerto Vallarta to visit friends.
We stayed in a quaint boutique hotel, Hotel Catedral in Old Town, a great location.

The view from our doorway.
After checking in, we walked to meet friends Jim & Ruby and Bill & Esperanza.  We enjoyed the afternoon at the beach in front of their hotel, then walked back to our hotel, sampling a few tequilas on route.  After a quick shower we were on our way to meet them for dinner.
We sampled a few more tequilas on the way.  Will we never learn?

Dinner with a view.

A great evening with old friends.
The next morning we took a few more pictures from our room before checking out.

Dave took this photo of a painting in the lobby.  I believe this is Frida Kahlo.
During the twenty-eight years of her painting career Frida Kahlo was best known as the exotic wife of the hugely famous muralist Diego Rivera. She was the woman who wore festive Mexican costumes and who painted peculiar, often shocking self-portraits.
We walked to the pier to meet friends Dean, Crystal and their son Reece who we met in the Baja last winter.  They were on a cruise which was docking in Puerto Vallarta for the day.
We took some pictures from the pier while we were waiting for them.

Once they arrived we walked to a restaurant for refreshments and snacks.
They loved the 2 for 1 margaritas.  Much better than paying $12.00 for a drink on the cruise ship.
Reece enjoyed getting his toes in the sand.
After a good visit we drove them back to their ship.
Jan. 23:
Another fabulous beach day.
Jan. 25:  Such great, fresh, cheap vegetables here.
We went to a party that night.  Let's just say we won't be drinking White Russians again anytime soon.
Jan. 27:  I went to a cooking class in La Penita at the home of Betty Nunez.
The menu was a special rice dish, coconut shrimp with pineapple salsa & tamarind sauce.
It was delicious.
Especially good was the family recipe guacamole and the margaritas.
We got home in time to hit the beach for a bit.
Jan 29:  Once again we took Cleo to the kennel and we were off to Puerto Vallarta.  We took a couple from the RV park with us and dropped them off where they were renting a car.  We did a bit of shopping and checked into our hotel. This time I had booked us at Canto Del Sol using our RCI points.  The only room available with our points was a two bedroom suite.
The first bedroom.
The first bathroom.
The living room.
The kitchen.
The second bedroom.
The second bathroom.
The view.
I thought the sign on the bed was stitched, but when I went to take it off before bed I discovered it was made of little individual pebbles.  Clean up on aisle 3.
We went to the pool for a snack, drink and swim.

After a swim, we walked the beach.

We got ready to go out for dinner and met Kim, a former co-worker, and her husband Henri.  We went to our favourite place in Puerto Vallarta, The Margarita Grill.
They make great guacamole right at your table.
They have the best margaritas.
The number one reason we go there for is the music.  We were thrilled that the Vega brothers are still there.  They are so talented and can play all of your requests.
It was a great evening.
This time we were smart enough not to go to the tequila tasting shops.
To finish off the evening we walked the Malecon.  This is the pier where we met friends last week.
We were suprised how busy the Malecon was.  Every big bar had a live band and they all sounded great.
At the end of the Malecon we caught a cab back to our hotels.  Another great night in PV.
We had real flowers on our bed.
The next day we did some shopping and picked up a friend from the airport who was returning to Lo de Marcos after a short trip home.
Feb. 2:  Groundhog Day, and as most of you know, Dave's birthday.  We went out for dinner and music to Clarita's.

Our feature performer, Tony.
Dave & Jody, who has the same birthday, had a special candle on their dessert.
The birthday girl Jody, and her husband Brent.
The birthday boy.

Dancing Dave.  I think it was a good birthday.
Our princess.
Feb. 4:  We went to the market in La Penita.

Dave, stopping to catch his breath on our way to a bar for a beer.
Back to the beach.  It was very wavy.

Cleo is on guard.
Looks like a Manitoba sky.  Except for the palm trees.

Another exhausting day.
