Fish Bowls of Regret

My last blog was March 2nd.  Most of the following pictures will be in order, however, because we have three different cameras that we take pictures with I may add a few older pictures I've come across that I'd like to share.  Also I have borrowed a few pictures that others have posted.
Many footprints in the sand.
Dave with the owners of El Gigio restaurant in La Penita.
March 4: We picked up Manitoba friends John & Wendy, in Guayabitos and spent the afternoon on our beach.
John's back.  Ouch!

Dinner at Los Compadres.  Unfortunately the waiter didn't get Wendy in the picture.
This chess set is in the grounds of the Royal de Cameron Los Cocos in Guayabitos.
March 5:  A beautiful beach day.

Lifeguard training on our beach today.  Sorry I missed it.
That evening we went to a Luau fundraising event.

Sometimes you just need a selfie.
There was a great turnout.
Our RV park neighbours.
We had some entertainment before dinner.
You can't have a luau without Hawaiian hula dancers.

Dave hasn't done the hula since we went to Hawaii in 1977.

The roasting pigs.  They were delicious.
We were treated to a beautiful sunset.
Dave made a friend.

After dinner the place was hopping.

We had a great time dancing the night away.  The finale was fireworks over the water.
The drummer had a great shirt on.
March 6:  The ocean was pretty rough.

We have a very talented artist in Lo de Marcos who turned a golf cart into this very cool "truck".
The last open mic night of the season.

On Tuesday, March 8th we had a typical Manitoba storm overnight.  Thunder, lightening, high winds and lots of rain.  During the night people were outside fighting to close their awnings.  We slept through most of it.  We had put our awning in and our lawn chairs away before bed.  Some people lost screen tents and everything was wet the next morning.
The restaurant in our RV park, La Tomatina, lost most of it's roof.

I guess we were pretty lucky because Mazatlan got hail.
The next day was cool and cloudy.  The long sleeves actually came out of the closet.
This was the day we were originally planning to leave but Dave had a dentist appointment.
We were supposed to have a potluck dinner but due to the cold and a bit more rain it was postponed to tomorrow.  Once again, we were pretty lucky with our weather.  In the city of Tequila, they got snow!
Here is a news clip:

Tequila Shortage Concerns As Snow Hits Jalisco

Yesterday, March 9th, snow fell in Jalisco, Mexico for the first time since 1997 leading to fears of an agave production shortfall.

The message was simple, but a little concerning, buy up tequila now as in 3 to 5 years there will be a worldwide tequila shortage.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

We decided that we would stay in Lode for one extra day and skip Chacala and go straight to Stone Island.  That evening we had a farewell potluck dinner.
The next morning, Friday, we said goodbye to all of our friends.

Leaving Lo de Marcos.
We had a beautiful day for driving.
Pretty good roads.

We were glad we had decided not to go to Chacala because we saw about 10 rigs turn off the highway heading in there.  It's not a very big campground.
The road twists and turns.   Luckily, we had very little traffic.
Beautiful scenery.
Sugar cane.
Bypassing the city of Tepic.

Somewhere around here we had to stop for a fruit inspection.  They took a grapefruit and an orange but left all the limes.  When I opened the trailer door for the inspector I got quite a shock.  Besides footstools and the end table being knocked over, two cupboard doors had opened and there was stuff everywhere!  I'm pretty sure the fruit inspector was used to seeing that, considering we had been bouncing down the highway for many miles.  Dave had made a comment that everything in our trailer was getting blended.  He wasn't kidding.  We didn't want to hold up the fruit inspection site so continued to drive until we could find a place to safely pull over.  By this time a Coke had exploded in and out of the cupboard.  Oh boy.  What a mess to clean up.
About this time I saw a notation on one of my maps for Bum Rock so I started taking pictures of every rock I saw.  Not sure which one was the bum.

We have turned off the highway and are on our way to Isla de las Piedras (Stone Island).

Almost there.  Some horses in the way.
We have arrived and Cleo has found herself a nice shady spot.  I just hope a coconut doesn't fall on her head.
Dave made the decision that he is not repairing our end table once again.  It went to the dumpster.
What a great beach.

Time to try out the nearest beach bar.

Gorgeous.
It was a long day.
On Saturday we went for a walk to explore.

This pig was not very happy that we were walking by with Cleo.
These little dogs were all bark.

Most of the roads are sand.
We woke this guy up from a nap.
A very cool tree.

We decided to walk back on the beach and give Cleo some freedom.
What a mistake.  Can you see her?  No?  Neither can we.  Sigh.......
Needless to say, she had the time of her life.  The water is shallow, the beach is long.  I don't think she's ever had that much fun playing in the water.  She managed to avoid us for about two hours.

In the afternoon we decided to take a drive around town since it was a lot bigger than we thought and we wanted to find out where some things were.

These people are on a tour.  They end up at a restaurant near our RV park to eat, drink and go for banana boat rides.
This is the Embarcadero where you can catch a water taxi over to Mazatlan for about 60 cents.

We took a different route back to the RV park.

Cleo is still pretty tired after her morning exercise.

We have seen a couple of posts regarding Lo de Marcos now having trained lifeguards.
That is great news!
This is the view from our rear window.
Pretty flowers in the park.

Cleo is still recovering.
Jody & Brent have arrived from Lo de Marcos.  Their dog Zela is just chilling.
The four of us decided to go to Mazatlan for dinner.  First a boat ride.

Then a pulmonia (open air cab) to the Mechado El Centro.

We walked around looking for a place to have dinner.
There were lots of vendors.
We have selected a restaurant.

Jody calls these drinks "fish bowls of regret".

I'm sure we wouldn't have had any regrets if we had just had one.

Some very cute Mexican kids that came to hang out with us.
After dinner, it was time to dance.
This was a really good band.  Dave tried to go up on stage with them to play his harmonica.  They kicked him off.  It was pretty funny.
She was enjoying the entertainment.
Oh, oh.  More fish bowls of regret.
We were entertained by a group of young dancers right in front of our table.

Yes, Dave did go and join them.
All good things must come to an end.
We definitely had some regrets the next morning.

I have more to share about Stone Island but it will have to wait for the next blog.  We are leaving this morning and going to Durango.
