The California Coast - Part Two

We left San Francisco and continued our journey on the coastal highway.  BTW, in case you're taking notes I made a mistake in the last blog.  We were last in San Francisco in 2008.
It's a much slower route but the scenery is worth it.

Interesting sculptures in the hedges.

Pretty flowers at the side of the road.

Here we go again.

Love the change of scenery.

Here comes the fog.

We kept driving in and out of the fog.
An RV park.

Some of you who know me know that I like to plan things.  I don't like to leave things to chance.  So as per usual, I have planned a day or two ahead where we will be stopping each night, which is really good for me.  Normally I would have planned two or three months ahead.  Our destination for this particular night was really out of my comfort zone.  In my search for free places to camp I found a place mentioned on the internet and thought we would give it a try.  It was not an officially approved overnight stop but apparently nobody was getting kicked out.  It was excellent!  It was on a pull out on the side of the highway on a cliff overlooking the water between Ft. Bragg & Westport, CA.
This was the view out our window.
We arrived in time to see the sunset.
Looking over the edge.
Happy hour.

When we arrived there was one other RV.  In the morning we were suprised to see five.
The fog has arrived.

Sure glad we were done driving for the day.
The next morning it was still foggy.

Looking better.  Time to go.

Hmmmm........maybe a little too soon.

Away from the fog.

So pretty.

Sorry for so many pics, I just couldn't leave out any of the ones I really liked.

We camped for the night at Clam Beach which is near McKinleyville, California.
Having to put on a fleece was one thing, then it was pants, now socks??!!  What next?  Shoes?
Just after we got our fire going we had some friends drop in from Redding, CA.  Calvin, Sandy & daughter Mary had been hiking in Trinidad, CA and stopped in for a visit before heading home.
Once again it was quite foggy.

The next day we decided it was time to move on in search of better weather.

We went through the Redwood Forest.

Not sure what the gold bears were all about but there were two at each end of the bridge.
Paul Bunyan & Babe!  We're not sure what happened to his arm.  Axe accident?

Dave really likes Babe.

Just before leaving California we went to a discount liquor store.
All this for $74.00.  We weren't really thinking about how much we have to drink before we get to Canada.  Oh boy.
