The California Coast

We decided to take the scenic coastal route on our way north.

It was amazing scenery!

That white blur on the top of the hill is Hearst Castle where we considered going until we found out you get to see about 2 rooms for every $25.00 you are willing to part with. EACH!  They have three or four $25.00 tours for different parts of the castle.
So we continued to meander along the highway enjoying the scenery.

Yes, it was all going wonderfully until OMG!  We started climbing mountains and clinging to the side of cliffs!!  The pictures do not do it justice and of course, I wasn't taking pictures at the worst times.
It's much better when there are some trees on the side.  Also it wouldn't be too bad if we were on one level but we were either climbing or going downhill.
I know we were on the inside but when you're going downhill on sharp turns and heading for the water it's a little nerve wracking.
At least Dave has both hands on the wheel.

The drive would probably be more fun in a sports car and not towing a 30 foot trailer.
Like I said, pretty gorgeous scenery.

Eventually we made our way slightly inland.

We finally made it to our destination for the night, a Camping World parking lot in San Martin, California.
The next morning we were on the road heading for one of our favorite cities, San Francisco.

Dave was a little freaked out when he found out we were going over the Golden Gate Bridge.

We got tied up in heavy traffic.  I think it's always rush hour there.

It was very exciting to be back.  We were there once in 2006.
This was our first time driving over the bridge.  We rode bicycles over it last time.

We stayed in Marin Park about 1/2 hour from San Francisco.

We biked here before.
Once we got settled and had our dinner we walked over to a market which had live music.
The next morning we drove to Fisherman's Wharf.
Some of the streets are pretty steep.

Look at those flowers!
Dave really has a thing for Zoltar.
There is Alcatraz.  We've been there before.

Our first stop (after Zoltar) was walking over to the Buena Vista Cafe for a cup of their world famous Irish Coffee.  Yum!  We sat in the park to drink it and took in the view.

Lunch with a view.

A Segway tour.

This is the bush man.  He jumps out and scares people.  It's very entertaining.  He draws quite a crowd of onlookers.
This is what he looks like from the back.  There was a bush man in the same spot the last time we were there.
The docks are full of sea lions.
We met our good friend's daughter, Alanna for dinner & drinks.  It was great to see her.
City lights on our drive back to the campground.
To be continued.........
