It's Getting Exciting!

In the morning before leaving San Diego we took Cleo for a walk and saw a dragon boat, a paddle boarder and a water skier.  Another beautiful day.
After breakfast we decided we just had to go check out Dog Beach.  It is a huge, beautiful, sandy beach.  Dogs are allowed on one side of the walkway.  They have tons of room to run and play in the waves.
That area of San Diego, Ocean Beach, is very dog friendly.  We passed by a big dog park and we were told that you can even take your dog into some restaurants.
The waves at the beach were great.  There were tons of surfers.  Dave was disappointed that we hadn't brought our swimsuits.  I think if we'd gone into the water very far there was a good chance we could have been beaned by a surfboard.  The water was really warm.  THAT'S what California is all about!
This is some cactus on the side of the road.
We left San Diego to go to a campground in Potrero, California which is very close to the Mexican border.  We drove a long, narrow, twisty, kind of scary road to get there.  We really hoped that we were going the right way.  Our GPS couldn't locate it so I used google maps.  We were very really to finally see a sign for Portrero.  We kind of figured that road was a test.  If you can't handle this, you can't handle Mexico.
We had seen a sign on the road that said if you are a bus or over 40 feet you should turn around and not go this way.  We are 45.  We saw a semi coming from the other way so figured we were OK.  I did not take pictures of the really scary parts.  I was too busy clutching the door handle and trying to squish myself away from the edge.
It was nice to arrive at an actual campground.  Trees, fire pits, wilderness, etc.  Before too long most of the people in our caravan had arrived and we started getting to know each other.  There are 13 people including us, 11 of which are Canadian plus the two "wagonmasters" who are also from Canada.
It was a great evening.  We were listening to the crickets and the coyotes.  There was a bright full moon.
It was another beautiful morning.  The sun started to get hot early.
Cleo and I went for a walk this morning.  I heard something rustle in the bushes at one point.  I made sure I kept her right in the middle of the path.
Our group met at 10:00 and the wagonmaster took all of us in his van to the border crossing.  We took our passports and Mexican Tourist Cards and had them stamped.  That will speed up the process tomorrow when we cross the border.
We are having a reception at the wagonmaster's site at 2:30 today and will receive lots of information about our trip.  Can't Wait.
Not sure when I will be blogging again.  There are times when we will have wifi in Mexico, so until then adios.
