Nobody Told Me About the Mountains

We slept in a bit this morning and were thrilled to see sunshine.
Dave got a tip from a fellow camper as to where to buy the batteries he is looking for so on route we pulled into Roseburg, Oregon to Big O Tires.  They couldn't get the batteries we wanted until Monday buy were very helpful and told us of some locations they have in San Diego.
Our drive today was not that far in miles but when you stop for batteries, diesel, potty break, etc. it sure takes a long time to get somewhere.  We (I) have been really good about packing our lunch everyday so that is one less stop we have to make.
I had no idea we had some MAJOR mountains to drive through today.  I was ready for it in BC but this came as a total suprise.  I also don't think the "edges" looked as safe as they do in Canada.
One of the things we find amazing in the US is the construction zones.  Whenever there is construction ahead there is a sign on the sign of the road that says speed fines double in construction zones.  The thing that is amazing to us is that you don't have to reduce your speed in a construction zone.  You can still do 50 or 60 or 70 MILES per hour.  As long as you don't exceed it you're OK.  That feels very strange to us.  We always want to go really slow.

You gotta love California.
We have arrived at our campsite in Redding, California and are looking forward to meeting friends for dinner tonight.
The weather is warming up slowly as we go south.  It is 16 today in Redding.
After dinner they took us to see the sun dial bridge which was very cool but unfortunately pictures don't do it justice.
There was a "gang" of teenagers hanging around the bridge by the river.  You would suspect they were there to party, have a bonfire, etc. but no, they were there to sing. I wish I could share the video with you but unfortunately I haven't figured out how to put videos on the blog yet.
Good night everyone.
